Between the lines: Hold On

Here are just some things that you may (or may not) want to know:

-I started Hold On on July 15th and finished it on August 28th...so, it took me 48 days to write.

-The story is about forty-seven pages typed, font size 12...Handwritten, it's a little under fifty pages (one page being one side of notebook paper), but my handwriting was really big at first and got smaller.

-16,501 words! Actually, that isn't that many...

-Originally, my characters weren't based off of any real people or other fictional characters personality-wise, but as I got into the later chapters, I started to see similarities between other people and somewhat added other traits to my characters.

-Here's how I chose everyone's name...first, middle (yes I made middle names for all of them), and last: Skylar/Skye and Dillon are two of my favorite names, and for Marcus and Olivia, I randomly chose a letter and searched for my favorite name. I'm not sure how I thought of the name Rosalind. For middle names, I did the random letter thing again, except for Skye's middle name. Last names...I kind of just winged it. Yeah, I went through a lot of trouble just to pick five full names...

-My favorite chapter to write was either nine, fifteen, seventeen, or the epilogue.

-The chapters that gave me the most trouble/took me the longest were eight, fifteen, and sixteen

-My favorite character to "create" is Marcus because at the beginning, he's just kind of quiet, but later confesses his love for Skye, but if I were a reader, like all you lovely people, I probably would've favored Olivia.

-How did I come up with the idea? Well, during the summer, it took me like an hour to fall asleep (for reasons unknown) and I always get inspired at night (again, for reasons unknown). Before this, I used to start some realistic fiction stories, but always thought they got boring and never wrote far. So I decided I wanted to try writing again, and this time, somewhat based on (and you are all probably sick of me bringing this up) "The Hunger Games" series (that would explain the hunting, the train, the love triangle, the young girl dying, etc.) because those books always had me staying up late reading. Thus I came up with the idea of five orphans living in a village, having to hunt for food. The next day, I wrote the intro with the massacre and later, the rest of the chapter. The next few days I spent writing the train chapters, but I kept thinking of some big event to take the role of the main conflict. Somehow, I came up with the idea of the people who killed their parents to come back to hunt them. Later I developed the reason why. And remember, they're still out there...

-I always listen to music when I write. In some cases, the music matches the mood I want to capture (for example, I was listening to "Impossible" by Shontelle when I wrote chapter seventeen), but mostly because I don't like silence when I'm working especially writing.

-I write as often as I can, which would explain how I can come up with two chapters in two days during the summer and only one in a week during the school year.

-My favorite scene would either be the dance in chapter nine, or when Marcus admits to Skye that he loves her in chapter fifteen...I love romance...what can I say?

-How did I not give up? Well, for one thing, I was really into the story. I'm not sure what genre I'd call it, but I liked the "surviving in the woods" thing and didn't get bored like my unfinished realistic fiction stories. Also, everyone telling me how much they liked my story kept me motivated as well which is why I owe it to you readers for helping me keep at it.

You can ask me something if you want. I mostly just thought of some things to put here (fail right), because only like three of these were asked. :-)
